Weekend Roundup: Viver Brasil, Downtown Flea & Cherry Poppin' Daddies

Posted: Updated:

FOX 11's food and fun expert Mar Yvette searches the Los Angeles area for some of the best places to eat, drink, shop and have a great time. Featured guests then swarm our FOX Television Center parking lot every Thursday morning between 9am and 10am on Good Day LA, creating a big party as one jam-packed segment known as the Weekend Roundup!

Here's more information about the guests we featured:

Viver Brasil

It's going to be a night of excitement under the stars when Viver Brasil hits the stage at Ford Amphitheatre in Hollywood, one of my favorite outdoor music venues in LA! Viver Brasil celebrates its 15th anniversary with Intersections/Ajê, featuring exuberant sambas, pulsating maracatus and forrós, and exotic tales of love and intrigue. The show embodies the beautiful and mythic stories of Afro-Brazilian culture complete with colorful costumes, dancers, drummers and singers. Get your tickets online or onsite at the Ford Theatres on Saturday, July 27. Show starts at 8:30pm.

Downtown Flea

It's a block party, flea market, and food festival all rolled into one! The Downtown Flea is a four-lot city marketplace with some 400 local indie designers and crafts vendors (think unique vintage, collectibles and antiques), live music, plenty of food including Street Foods Co Trolley and activities like a rock wall and demos from Loyal Dean Longboards. The mart happens on the fourth Sunday of every month in LA's Historic Core between 2nd and 4th and Main to Broadway. Admission is just $5 with access to all four lots. VIP tickets are also available with complimentary beverages and lounge seating. Tickets may be purchased on location at the ticket booth or at: www.dtflea.com. It all takes place Sunday, July 28, 10am-4pm.

Cherry Poppin' Daddies

You know them from their double-platinum hit "Zoot Suit Riot" back in the late 90s. But the Cherry Poppin' Daddies never stopped making music. And now after years mixing it up with everything from psychedelia and funk to soul and world music, the Eugene, Oregon-based big band has finally made another swing album ... only this time around, it has a bit more bite. "White Teeth, Black Thoughts" has all the dancey excitement we've come to love from the Daddies, but there's a deeper message if you pay attention. Catch the band at their only LA tour stop at the Roxy on the Sunset Strip this Thursday, July 25 at 8pm.
