Father of teen injured in fall at Stone Mountain Park talks

ATLANTA -

The father of a teenager seriously injured in a fall at Stone Mountain Park talked to FOX 5 on Thursday about his son's dramatic rescue.

Jerry Landress said that his son, Jason, was scheduled for surgery on Thursday, two days after a dangerous fall at Stone Mountain Park.  Jerry Landress said that his son has been in intensive care after suffering numerous fractures, including a shattered jaw.

"He cracked right above his canines all the way up to his nose, his nose was broken. He has a small bruise on the front part of his brain," Jerry Landress said.

Landress said he's thankful that his son's friend, Sean Garber, tried to help. Garber also fell after trying to grab Jason. Both of the boys' parents say they're frustrated by the response on social media.

"There's been statements made that they're wild reckless kids, out looking to get in trouble and that's the furthest thing from the truth. They're both very cautious, levelheaded boys," said Jerry Landress.

Firefighters had to use to ropes to bring the boys to safety.

"I'm just thankful for God…I believe he had his hand on those boys and helped them down the mountain. It just could have been so much worse," said Jerry Landress.

In addition to several facial fractures, Landress also has bruising on his brain and his lungs. His dad told said that he also shattered four of his front teeth. A dentist, who is a FOX 5 viewer, has offered to fix them.
