Sgt. Eric T. Lawson of Stockbridge was one of two soldiers killed in Afghanistan on Saturday.
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) - The Army says two soldiers based at Fort Eustis in Virginia have been killed in Afghanistan.
Sgt. Eric T. Lawson and Spc. Caryn E. Nouv were killed Saturday in Ghanzi Province, Afghanistan. The Army says the two died when enemy forces attacked their vehicle with an improvised explosive device and small arms fire.
They were assigned to the 359th Transportation Company, which deployed to Afghanistan in January.
Lawson was 30. He was a cargo specialist from Stockbridge, Ga., who joined the Army in 2002. He had served three tours in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Nouv was 29. She was a signal support systems specialist from Newport News, Va. She joined the Army in 2009 and served as a convoy operations driver during her tour. This was her first deployment.
