Police: Bloomfield Twp. family tied up during home invasion

BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJBK) -

Family members and friends of the victims rushed over to comfort them and try to restore their sense of security after this horrifying ordeal.

Police in Bloomfield Township say two robbers walked into a house on the 3000 block of Manchester Court Wednesday night through an unlocked garage door and held six people at gunpoint. A man in his sixties, four women between the ages of 25 and 54 and a six-year-old girl were inside the house.

"They just saw two men dressed in all black, wearing masks, one had a gun, one had scissors," said Sgt. Timothy Abbo.

Police say the suspects tied everyone up using clothing and belts and forced the family members into a closet during the robbery.

"They had neckties over their faces, and they threw a blanket over them so they wouldn't see what was going on," Abbo said.

The robbers stole jewelry and cash worth about $100,000. Police believe the family may have been targeted because their son is getting married this weekend. It appears the suspects were expecting to find a large amount of cash from the wedding. The family owns several businesses, including supermarkets in Detroit.

Family members were too distraught to appear on camera. We're told they were working on the seating chart for the wedding when the home invasion happened. One relative says the entire upper floor of the house was ransacked, and the suspects were inside for more than an hour.

We're told at one point during the robbery, the suspects lost their keys inside the house and spent time running around trying to find them. When they took off, a family member got loose and called police.

A neighbor we spoke with said,"It's very alarming, this is a quiet neighborhood, we're all going to have to take precautions."  That neighbor and others are thankful no one was hurt and anxious for police to make an arrest.

Investigators believe the suspects parked some kind of sedan at the intersection of Wabeek Lake Drive East and Manchester Court between 9 and 11 p.m. Wednesday. If you have any information or saw anything suspicious, call Bloomfield Township police at 248-433-7755.
