Movie Critic Matt Atchity: Another Mixed Bag At The Movies

Posted: Updated:

"Mark Wahlberg does something that we haven't seen him do a lot". Matt Atchity says that's one of the many refreshing things about the new action flick "2 Guns". Matt says Denzel is his usual awesome self and Wahlberg is great, but he also singles out another actor who "is great...it's one of the best things I've seen him do in years".

The critics are split on this one with it getting a fresh rating...around 60%. Matt says unlike a lot of the shoot-em-ups, "this is a very complicated story...you kinda have to think". We also learn why you probably would not want to see a movie with Maria.

On the flip side, Matt and the critics are truly hating "The Smurfs 2". Matt says it's not because it's offensive or obnoxious...he says it commits the ultimate movie sin: it's boring. "The kids that were in the screening I was at were chatting about other things...they didn't seem particularly interested". Critics actually hated this one more than the original...which also got horrible reviews but still made money. Matt also reveals a smaller movie opening in LA that critics are loving.

Atchity is the editor in chief for the pop-culture website "Rotten Tomatoes." He also hosts a new show on Sirius XM called "Rotten Tomatoes Radio."

The weekly one hour call in show airs Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
