CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Two men were killed and at least 24 people — including a 6-year-old boy — have been hurt in gun violence across the city since Friday night.

One man was killed and another was injured in a shooting in the Chatham neighborhood late Sunday, the weekend's most recent fatal shooting.

About 9:50 p.m., the two men were standing on the sidewalk talking with a group of people in the 8000 block of South Normal Avenue when two other people walked up and opened fire, police said.

The two tried to run away, but one of the men, age 40, was found dead with a gunshot wound to the chest on the back porch of another home on the block, police said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office did not release the man's identity early Monday.

The other man, 36, was shot in the foot and taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in "stable" condition.

Area South detectives are investigating.

A 6-year-old boy was wounded in his shoulder in a shooting Friday night in the West Garfield Park neighborhood, police said. The boy was riding in a car with his mother about 11:30 p.m. Friday in the 4200 block of West Wilcox when shots were fired, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital.Twenty-two other people have been injured in shootings since Friday night.
