Glendale assistant police chief to be reinstated

Updated:

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) - A former Glendale assistant police chief who was demoted and suspended for violating policy earlier this year is being reinstated.

City Manager Brenda Fischer says she has accepted a recommendation from the personnel board to reinstate Greg Dominguez to his post as assistant chief. She did modify his suspension, increasing it to 80 hours without pay.

The 27-year police veteran said he twice went to a Peoria smoke shop and threatened to kill the clerk and burn the place down if they didn't stop selling the synthetic marijuana product known as "spice" to his son.

Dominguez has said his teenage son has struggled with addition.

The shop owner lodged a complaint with police and an internal investigation determined Dominguez violated department policy.

The board's recommendation and Fischer's decision stem from an appeal filed by Dominguez.
