ATLANTA -

There are many different types of birds in our area. Today, we're going to tell you how to attract your favorite fathered friends!

Hummingbird
-- Brightly colored birds with wings that beat about 53 times per second
-- Food: Flowers, nectar, sap and small insects
-- How to Attract
   - Plants like daylilies, lantana, and salvia
   - Place hummingbird feeders in an open area and keep them full

Mockingbird
-- Known for their singing, mockingbirds are the only bird that know multiple songs and mimic noises
-- Food: Insects and fruit
-- How to Attract
   - Shelter plants for nesting like trees & shrubs
   - Shrubs with berries for food

Wren
-- Small bird, cheery bird
-- Food: Insects
-- How to Attract
   - Trees and shrubs for protection
   - Large trees with holes for nesting or nesting boxes/bird houses

Sparrow
-- Very social, common birds
-- Diet: Mainly seeds, some small insects
-- How to Attract
   - Bird feeder with seed (keep away from the squirrels)
   - Birdbath for water & bathing
   - Tree/shrubs for nesting

Free Kids Class
-- Tomorrow (Saturday, August 10th) at 10am
-- Kids will learn about different birds and make a pinecone bird feeder to take home
