TROY, Mich. (WJBK) -

Recalled Troy Mayor Janice Daniels filed Tuesday afternoon to run for one of three open seats on City Council.

"I'm focusing on lowering taxes, increasing government accountability and reducing regulatory laws that are restricting all of our personal freedoms," she said.

"A lot of people have asked me to run for office," the former mayor added. "It was a decision that I thought was right at this time."

Candidates are required to hand in 60 signatures. Daniels turned in 71, but Fox 2 learned at least two of those signatures were not valid.

"They signed on one sheet ... and then they signed on another sheet, so that one was tossed out," said Troy City Clerk Aileen Bittner. "Those kinds of situations happen in every candidate's filing."

Daniels was elected to serve as mayor back in 2011. She was recalled less than a year later, protested for making anti-gay remarks on her personal Facebook page, voting against plans for a transit center and slamming some of her fellow elected officials.
