HONOLULU (AP) -- Researchers who've spent nearly four months simulating what its like to live on Mars are about to emerge from their Martian base on a barren lava field in Hawaii.
They were studying what foods astronauts might eat during a mission to the red planet. They were even required to wear mock space suits when they ventured out of the dome on the slope of Mauna Loa on the big island of Hawaii.
Six people were selected from various scientific backgrounds to cook meals from a list of dehydrated and shelf-stable ingredients that are non-perishable.
They hope to present the findings at the International Astronautical Congress this year.
