CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A 33-year-old Chicago man bit a police officer and punched the cop in the head while exiting a CTA train, prosecutors said Sunday.

Michael Applebee, of 2750 W. Roosevelt Rd., was charged with felony aggravated battery of a police officer after the incident Aug. 16 at the O'Hare Blue Line station, according to court records, the Sun-Times is reporting.

The incident began at about 11:30 p.m. after Applebee refused to leave the train, court records show. Police convinced Applebee to exit the train and when he did, he "moved abnormally on the platform."

A 52-year-old police officer tried to take control of Applebee and Applebee punched him in the head, knocking his glasses off, according to court records. During their struggle, Applebee bit the police officer on the right side of the chest and the right hand, causing him to bleed.

Another police officer at the scene subdued Applebee and took him into custody.

Judge James Brown set Applebee's bail at $50,000 and he is next due in court Aug. 23 at the Cook County Criminal Courthouse.
