Armed man robbing West Side businesses

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Police are looking for a man who has been robbing West Side storefront businesses in the Austin and Humboldt Park neighborhoods since June.

The man enters a store, shows the cashier a gun and announces a robbery, sometimes by giving the cashier a note, according to an alert from Area North detectives.

The robberies occurred:

-the 4700 block of West Lake Street on June 9 at 6:18 p.m.

-the 700 block of North Laramie Avenue on June 10 at 10:59 a.m.

-the 4700 block of West Lake Street on June 12 at 10:25 a.m.

-the 700 block of North Laramie Avenue on June 12 at 6:15 p.m.

-the 5700 block of West North Avenue on June 13 at 8:55 p.m.

-the 4700 block of West Lake Street on Aug. 14 at 6:55 a.m.

-the 3200 block of West Chicago Avenue on Aug. 15 at 7 a.m.

Police describe the suspect as a 25-35 year old black man who is 5-foot-7 and between 170-200 pounds. He was seen wearing a baseball cap, a grey or black hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans or black pants and tennis shoes.

After the Aug. 15 robbery, he fled in an older model Blue Pontiac Grand Prix, the alert said.
