Suspects sought in Back of the Yards robberies, burglaries

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Police are seeking the suspects for robberies and burglaries this month in the South Side Back of the Yards neighborhood.

People have been physically attacked and a weapon displayed or implied before they were robbed, according to a community alert from Area Central detectives.

The robberies occurred in the:

1500 block of West 50th Street at 2:45 p.m. Aug. 3;

and 5000 block of South Ashland Avenue at 12:55 p.m. Aug. 12

The suspects are described as two to three black men, 18-26, 5-feet-7 to 6 feet and 155-180 pounds, the alert said.

Churches and schools have also been burglarized in the:

5400 block of South Union Avenue during the early morning of Aug. 5;

5100 block of South Union Avenue on Aug. 7;

5100 block of South Union Avenue on Aug. 9;

and 5000 block of South Laflin Street during the early morning of Aug. 13
