Eastbound lanes of Interstate 4 were closed or backed up for several hours Thursday morning as Orlando Fire Rescue responded to a fatal crash near Orange Blossom Trail.

According to witness statements, a gold vehicle was traveling in the center lane beside a red Hyundai. The gold car attempted a lane change and may have struck the left side of the red Hyundai.

The driver of the Hyundai, identified as Stephen Hughes, 61, of Kissimmee, lost control and ran off the road striking a tree.  Hughes, who is a teacher at Lake Eola Charter School, died at the scene.

Now, police are searching for the driver of that gold car and are investigating this case as a possible hit and run.

Investigators are asking that if anyone may have witnessed this crash to please contact the Orlando Police Department.
