WILMINGTON, Del. -

Vice President Joe Biden says his son, Beau, underwent a successful procedure and is expected home Thursday.

According to the White House, the Delaware attorney general is in great shape.

The Bidens are returning to Delaware aboard Air Force 2 on Thursday after medical tests in Houston, Texas.

Just before noon Thursday, Beau Biden tweeted, "On our way home! Can't wait to get back. Thank you, Houston. -bb"

The 44-year-old son checked into in a cancer center Tuesday and is supposed to check out Thursday.

Officials haven't revealed details about his condition or the type of tests he has had, but he's said to be in good health and still working and communicating with his office in Delaware.

Last week, Beau Biden became weak and disoriented while on a family vacation. He spent some time in a Chicago hospital after that incident, but that may not have been the first sign of an issue.

Earlier, a report had surfaced saying emergency responders were called to the vice president's home two weeks before his son was hospitalized.

An official with the Cranston Heights Fire Co. confirmed to Fox News that the department got a call for help earlier this month from Joe Biden's home, where Beau has been living while a house he bought is being renovated.

Beau Biden did have a stroke three years ago.

The vice president has canceled several fund raisers and speaking engagements to be with his son

The White House and the A.G.'s office say they will share test results when they get them.

Biden will follow-up with doctors in the coming weeks.
