Water sommelier offers $20 glasses of water

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

If you take a seat at Ray's and Stark bar in Los Angeles, you'll get three menus, one for food, one for wine and one for water.

Martin Riese is the General Manager at Ray's.

"What we did, we took this mineral water. it's like our base water, and we're adding different minerals to it to have a very unique taste," Riese says.

Riese serves as the first and only water sommelier in the United States.

The restaurant offers a 43-page water tasting menu, everything from the foreign, to the familiar.

Those bubbles don't come cheap. Reise is turning water into cash. Prices range from $8 to $20 a glass.

Could the concept work in New York? At Bocca Di Bacco, an upscale Italian restaurant in Manhattan's Hells Kitchen, customers had mixed opinions but wine sommelier Luis Da Dilva doesn't think the water trend will be bucking any traditions any time soon.

"We're not there yet," Da Dilva says. "I believe a good meal is done with wine and water is an accessory."

"This is the latest and then most effective sanitization method available today," says Bill Swan, the owner of the Goddard School. He purchased the ZONO Sanitech for his school about six months ago. The machine is the size of a double refrigerator and uses oxygen to kill viruses and bacteria.
