Box Office: This Is A Great Weekend For Movies

Posted: Updated:

This is a really good weekend for movies...so says Matt Atchity from Rotten Tomatoes. He tells Steve Mason and Maria Sansone three of the four flicks opening this weekend are well worth seeing.

"The World's End", the final installment in a trilogy that began with "Shaun of the Dead" and continued with "Hot Fuzz", is tops. "This may be the best in the series...I love this movie. It's got a lot of laughs and has a real poignant story about the evolution of friendship...I dare say that this is Simon Pegg and Nick Frost's best performance in anything that they've done."

The horror flick "You're Next" is also breaking a trend with reviewers. "Normally the critics don't like scary movies but they sure like this one. If you like scary movies, this is an excellent choice."

"It's not all good news...", Matt says critics are hatin' on "The Mortal Instruments City of Bones."

"The critics say that this movie wishes it was as good as 'Twilight', which is not a good sign...it's kind of derivative of everything else you've seen and none of it really works."

One movie in limited release and on demand is one of Matt's favorites of the summer: Drinking Buddies. "This is a really, really excellent movie...it's a very honest story that's happening here...I really hope it finds an audience."

Maria and Matt then talk about a movie worth taking a second look at much to Mason's surprise: "MegaShark vs Crocosaurus". This award worthy movie blazed the trail for other classics like "Sharknado" and "2 Headed Shark Attack"...and Steve's "certified fresh" performance is seen, in all it's glory during the segment, as he shares the scene with another classic thespian: Jaleel White a.k.a. Urkel from "Family Matters".
