Two weeks after a horrific car crash took the life of a Santa Ana couple, their community is coming together to help raise money to help the couple's six children. Three of Adela and Martin Saldana's children, along with the kids' grandmother, were travelling together in a the family car on a trip to Mexico when the car crashed in New Mexico. The parents died in the crash. The grandmother was hurt and remains hospitalized. The oldest daughter, 18-year-old Karina, hurt her neck, back, ribs and knee and is temporarily wheelchair-bound. Her younger brothers had less serious injuries. The Saldanas were active in local children's sports and their community. Now the community is trying to raise money to help pay for medical expenses and to bring the bodies of Adela and Martin Saldana back to Santa Ana for a funeral. There will be a fundraiser, featuring food and a car wash, Saturday in the neighborhood of Ross Street and St. Andrews Place in Santa Ana. If you want to help the family directly, you can contribute to a memorial fund:
Checks should be made to the Lorri McPeck-Saldana Children Fund. Those interested can make a deposit directly into the savings accounts at Santa Ana Federal Credit Union, 800 W.
