When news broke that Ben Affleck will play Batman in a "Man of Steal" sequel, Twitter broke out into an anti-Affleck rage.
Hashtags like #BetterBatmanThanBenAffleck" generated some of the angriest tweets over a casting decision we've ever seen.
Ben Affleck is a two-time Academy Award winning actor. He's got the jawline… He's got the super-hero role experience…
Remember Daredevil? Yes, it was panned by the critics but it brought in the bucks at the box office. Don't forget he saved the planet from an asteroid in "Armageddon" too.
But critics point to his flops like "Gigli" and "Jersey Girl" instead of his hits like "Argo" and "Good Will Hunting" (there's even a #GoodWayneHunting trending right now)
Another concern? His Boston accent. Fears are mounting that Batman would be goin' aftah thah Jok-ah… which would be a wicked pissah… but c'mon.
Now there's a petition up on Change.org with over 10,000 signatures to bounce Ben from the Batman role because:
"His acting skill is not even close to being believable as Bruce Wayne and he won't do the role justice. He's not built, nor is he intimidating enough for the role of Batman. His portrayal of Daredevil was atrocious and he's not remotely close to an action star. Please find someone else."
But before we rip the cape off Afflecks back before he even gets to wear it, let's remember Heath Ledger got much of the same hatred and vitriol when he was cast to play the Joker yet earned a posthumous Oscar for it.
