WOODBURY, N.J. -

With her two children and relatives by her side, the wife of slain gas station attendant Surinder Singh stood on her front porch in Woodbury and wept openly over the loss of her 40 year old husband.

"Everybody knows us. We've been there for like 13 years. Same place," said Satinder Singh, the victim's brother.

"He's a very polite person, a very nice person. Never hurt anybody," said Balkar Seini, co-owner of the gas station.

The popular Singh was gunned down Sunday night just after 9 p.m. Police say he was shot at least twice at the Garden State Gas Station on North Broad Street next to the Colonial Diner.   His brother says Surinder Singh worked here for 13 years. He was a loving father and husband who worked long hours to support his family.

"Very hardworking guy. Never went out all the time on the job," Seini told FOX 29 after reporters gathered outside the family's home, a block from the gas station.

"Why would somebody wait until nine o'clock at night and sit there and want to just kill somebody," asked Dina Cantagallo, a customer at the station.

Monday morning, detectives returned to the scene to dig a stray bullet out of a State Farm Insurance company office across the street from the gas station. There are surveillance cameras here too, but not at the station. Customers were stunned by Singh's murder.

"He was always there for people. He was the nicest guy in the world," Cantagallo said.

"Justice should be served," said customer Brandon Kersey. "They should get the maximum penalty."

As a small memorial for Singh grew at the gas station, his family mourned his death and began preparing for a funeral later this week.  Police would not discuss a motive, but Singh's brother and partner said if it was robbery, the gunmen didn't get much.

"No large sums, couple hundred dollars. Not a lot," Satinder Singh said.

"They should be in the jail, not out on the streets," Seini added.

"He's a good guy. I don't think he deserves to lose his life over money. He was making honest money, you know," says Brandon Kersey.

Police are reviewing surveillance video from surrounding businesses looking for video of the killers. They also canvassed the neighborhoods around the gas station looking for clues. Police did recover a bullet from the business across the street from the crime scene.

The Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office said an autopsy would be performed Monday by the Gloucester Co. Medical Examiner.

The victim's brother says there have been break-ins at the store, but no gun-point robberies. The owners now plan to install surveillance cameras at the gas station.
