Vancouver Girl Gets Bike Back From Thief

Vancouver Girl Gets Bike Back From Thief

Posted: Updated:

A Vancouver girl's bike was stolen while she was visiting her friend, but she quickly got it back through her own ingenuity.

Kayla Smith reported the theft of her $1,000 bike to the police, but before they had time to investigate, a friend called to tell her it was on Craigslist being sold for $300.  And the location was just two blocks away.

Deciding not to wait for someone else to buy her bike, Kayla took action. She contacted the seller and set a meeting a half hour later in a public place (McDonald's). When she got there, the suspect was waiting with the bike. Kayla instantly knew it was hers. She asked if she could take a test ride in the parking lot, which he agreed to. She got on, started pedaling, and never looked back. She just kept on going.

The suspect never followed her and just ran away. Tonight, she has her bike back.
