Sophomore Jillian Hughes of Radnor High School is lending a helping hand to one Philadelphia school after hearing about the district's budget cuts.
Hughes collected over 400 backpacks to give to the students of the Andrew Jackson School and personally distributed them on the first day of school.
In addition to backpacks for the kids, Hughes also collected school supplies for the teachers at the school, who had not been given funding and therefore had to provide school supplies with their own money.
Hughes funded her cause largely through donations from former Eagles running back Brian Westbrook, as well as from family, friends, and her church.
Hughes joined FOX 29's Dawn Timmeney out at the school Monday morning as students were arriving for their first day of classes and receiving their backpacks.
"Handing out those backpacks was so rewarding, it was so worth it, to just say, here this is for you, I appreciate you and I hope you have a fantastic school year. To see all the smiles, oh my gosh it was awesome," says Jillian.
