DETROIT (WJBK) -

"Give me the keys or I will kill you." That's what a carjacking victim says she heard before giving up her vehicle to an escaped inmate outside a Detroit courthouse.

Patricia, who did not want to give her last name to FOX 2, says she was reaching for paperwork in the parking lot of the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice when 25-year-old Abraham Pearson, aka Derreck White, opened the door to her minivan and demanded her to get out.

"I could have been dead. He just appeared out of nowhere," said Patricia.

She was not injured during the encounter.

Police say Pearson, who was in court for sentencing on carjacking and armed robbery convictions, stabbed a sheriff's deputy with a plastic comb that had been fashioned into a shank before escaping.

Pearson fled the area in Patricia's gray minivan and abandoned it a short time later on the city's east side.

Police are actively searching the area.
