WOODSTOCK, Ga. -

A mother and her former boyfriend were arrested in connection to the death of a 17-month-old girl nearly a year ago.

A spokesperson for the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office says that Jamie Beck, 23, of Bartow County, and Michael Naples, 31, of Woodstock, were arrested Friday morning after an 11-month investigation and charges Felony Murder and Cruelty to Children in the 1st Degree in connection to the death of Kaylee Rayne Johnson.

Deputies first responded to 304 Red Bird Way in Woodstock on October 14, 2012 after receiving a report of a child that fell down the stairs. The toddler was rushed to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, but died two days later from her injuries.

The arrests came after a GBI Crime Lab report was released a few weeks ago that rule the incident to be a homicide. It further stated that the child died from "blunt force trauma to the head" which was not consistent with a child falling down the stairs.

Beck and Naples will remain in the Cherokee County Jail without bond until at least their next court appearance.
