Posted: Updated:

Firefighters today worked to extinguish a fire that quickly scorched about eight acres of brush in La Verne.

About 120 personnel were sent to the area of Broken Spur Lane and Rough Rider Road shortly before 1 p.m., according to Inspector Keith Mora of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The fire was burning uphill in an area near some homes, but no evacuations were immediately ordered, Mora said.

Two Super Scooper aircraft and three helicopters were also assigned to the firefighting effort.
