Local rider returns home after '2 Million Bikers to DC' Ride

CARTERSVILLE, Ga. -

A metro Atlanta biker returned home on Friday after participating in the "Two Million Bikers to DC" ride on Sept. 11.

The biking community converged on the nation's capital to honor victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Harold Hitt, who made the 12-hour trip from his home in Cartersville, Ga., said it was very moving to see so many bikers ride in tribute of the 9/11 victims.

"It was clubs, individuals, lawyers, broke people, rich people - everybody coming together to pay honor to these people," Hitt said.

Hitt said he's ridden since 1969, but said this rally was one he'll never forget.

"I don't care which club you were with, what individual you were, for one day, bikers from across the nation came together for one thing: to show respect," Hitt said.

Harold said images he took of the rally show the true face of bikers instead of the image pitched by Hollywood.

"People are too used to watching that ‘Sons of Malarkey' on FX…and real bikers aren't like that," he said.  "I ride with a club. We're good guys. We contribute to the community."

But for one day, Harold's brotherhood of bikers let the world know that – like Pearl Harbor -- they will never forget the tragedy of 9/11.

"For our generation, this will be like December 7 -- always. It will be an honorable, sacred day that for the rest of our lives, we will crusade to keep it that way too," Hitt said.

Police estimate that more than a million bikers rode in the rally.
