Seminole County Deputies arrest two men for allegedly beating an elderly man inside his home. Cops say the man was able to make his way across the street and get help from workers at a store.
"I was very shocked." It was just before 5 o'clock on Thursday morning, when cops say 70 year old Donnie Taylor walked up to a Sanford Avenue convenience store needing help,"He had stumbled up and was very bloody and very disoriented and couldn't really breathe." Becky Smith says her co-workers called rescuers, "we brought him out a chair and called 911 and they came and picked him up."
After cops arrived to the store, they decided to go across the way where Taylor lives and found blood splattered all over the house. Seminole Sheriff's deputies arrested 21 year old Jeremy Lewis and 27 year old Lorenzo Ramos. According to the report, they went into Taylor's home to allegedly rob and beat the senior citizen, "He's a little bit smaller than me, very skinny."
The report states Taylor was severely beaten, causing swelling to the brain. Deputies say he also had his teeth knocked out and his ear had to be re-attached, "The youth today, it's getting worse. I was always told to respect my elders."
According to the arrest report, both suspects told deputies they were using drugs and wanted to steal money from the senior citizen. Meanwhile Smith says Taylor is a regular customer at the store and often enjoys talking to everyone there. She hopes he'll be ok, "He's actually really nice. He says hi to everybody, comes in and talks, plays around. Uses our ATM and talks to the girls. Seems very nice and very gentle."
Both suspects were charged with home invasion, robbery and battery upon an elderly person. According to court records both were already on felony probation.
