CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJBK) -

A man pretending to be a police officer forced his way into an apartment, brutally assaulted the female victim and attempted to sexually assault her, Clinton Twp. police say.
The incident happened Sunday night.

The incident began when the 33-year-old victim noticed a strange person lurking outside her apartment at the Green Valley complex. She called Clinton Twp. police. A soon time later she heard a knock on her door, followed by the voice of a man identifying himself as a Clinton Twp. police officer. She opened the door, which was then forced all the way open by no police officer, but instead, the 39-year-old suspect .

He proceeded to brutally assault the victim, so much so her eye socket was broken, police say. Authorities believe the victim was not sexually assaulted but have reason to believe the incident is an attempted sexual assault.

A neighbor heard noise coming from the victim's apartment and called 911. Police arrived while the suspect was still inside the apartment hiding behind a couch. Police then chased the suspect who fled the location on food. Officers apprehended him at the Indian Run subdivision east of the initial apartment complex.

The suspect is in custody awaiting arraignment.
