MDOT: Hundreds of bridges "deficient" and "obsolete"

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) -

The Michigan Department of Transportation, MDOT, reports 269 bridges are "structurally deficient," meaning they may require rehabilitation or replacement and 828 bridges are "functionally obsolete," meaning their design is outdated and may require modernization.

Rob Morosi, a MDOT spokesman, tells Fox 2's Maurielle Lue the low rankings are no cause for concern. MDOT releases two bridge reports every year to keep the public informed. Morosi says if any bridges were in danger of collapsing, drivers would not be allowed on them.

You can view the Highway Bridge Report by county or by route in XLS spreadsheet or PDF format on MDOT's web site.
