A temporary dam on the north side of Lake Eola is clearing space for the installation of a new piece of public art.
The sculpture by Douwe Blumberg is one of eight commissioned by See Art Orlando, a non-profit corporation that secured private money to install the works downtown.
See Art Orlando chairwoman Jennifer Quigley isn't revealing exactly what the sculpture will look like.
"We want it to be a surprise, but it's made out of aluminum and he'll be welding all the pieces over the water," she said, adding that the sculpture will be illuminated by lights beneath the surface of the lake.
The artist is expected to be in town at the end of September. Quigley said it will take him about 10 days to install his creation. The dam is expected to be in place for about six weeks.
All eight See Art Orlando sculptures are expected to be installed by mid November.
