ANTIOCH, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

The body of the missing man recovered from Lake Marie near Antioch around 11 p.m. Tuesday evening has been identified as David Azooz, 47, of Antioch Township, according to Lake County Deputy Chief Coroner Orlando Tortillo.

Antioch Fire Department spokesman Chris Lienhardt said they received a call of a man in the water at 6:21 p.m. just north of the Sandbar Bar and Grille, the News-Sun is reporting.

"We don't know exactly what caused him to fall in," said Illinois Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer Rich Riedel, "but he did have some engine problems and he took the cover off the motor and set it on the back of the boat."

"When he fell in the cover went along with him. He was holding onto the side of the boat for 5 to 8 minutes before he slipped underwater," he said. He was not boating with any other boaters, but his 13-year-old daughter was in the boat and Riedel said she called 911 from her cell phone.

Four rescue boats and nearly two dozen divers and numerous rescue vehicle were on the scene. At 7:30 p.m., they went into a recovery mode using side scan sonar to make a grid search of the lake.

"According to what we heard, the father had started to row the boat with an oar and fell in and then couldn't get back in the boat," said Nancy Goralski, owner of the Sandbar Bar and Grille at 40870 Douglas Ave. in Antioch Township.

Rescue boats from Antioch, Grayslake, Fox Lake and Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District were on the scene and Goralski said the divers were going out on shifts, using her dock as a staging area.

A press conference is expected to be held Wednesday morning.
