Suspect arrested in string of Brookhaven car break-ins

BROOKHAVEN, Ga. -

Brookhaven police say they've captured a man wanted in a sting of car break-ins in the city.

Authorities say an off-duty police officer caught the suspect this week. They say Officer Usman Latif was on his way home from work on Monday when two residents told him they saw a suspicious person on a bicycle.

Latif searched the area and found 25-year-old Jamarl Kelley. After discovering that Kelley was wanted on a parole violation, officers searched his bag. Inside, they say they found a revolver and several stolen items, including cell phones and cameras that were reported stolen from cars in Brookhaven.

Kelley is now being held in connection with a number of cases over the past few weeks.
