2 shot, 1 by Atlanta police after fight on Crescent Ave.

ATLANTA -

Two people have been shot – one of them by a police officer – after a fight broke out among a large gathered in a parking lot along Crescent Avenue in midtown Atlanta, FOX 5's Carolyn Ryan reports.

One person was shot in the chest by a police officer. A second person was shot in the leg. Both were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital to be treated for their injuries.

The names of the injured have not been made public. A large section of Crescent remains closed off to traffic as of 5:30 a.m.

Ryan reports it began about 3 a.m. Thursday, when the group was leaving a nearby club and gathered in the Crescent Avenue parking lot. A fight in the group of a couple hundred people broke out just as police were doing routine patrol in the area.

Someone in the group had a gun and fired it. Police officers heard the gun and fired back, striking the gunman in his chest. It's unknown who fired the gun that struck the second person in his leg.

The name of the officer who fired the gun has not been released. The incident is still under investigation.
