Police: Big Sept. events to bring up to 125,000 to town

ATLANTA -

Atlanta police are asking metro-area residents to prepare for and be wary of a surge in local traffic - in-car and on-foot -- due to some big events coming in September.

Large conventions, concerts and sporting events are expected to draw an estimated 100,000-125,000 attendees.

Some of the big events in question are:

 - Atlanta Fall Gift & Home Furnishings Market, AmericasMart, September 19
 - Miranda Lambert: Locked & Reloaded Tour, Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood Atlanta, September 19, 7 p.m.
 - PGA Tour Championship, East Lake Golf Club, September 19-22
 - Music Midtown 2013, Piedmont Park, September 20-21
 - Georgia Tech vs. North Carolina, Bobby Dodd Stadium, September 21, 12 p.m.

Police are urging people who are going to these events to plan ahead if they're traveling by car; or, perhaps, consider taking MARTA.

Also, event-goers should definitely remain vigilant of any out-of-the-ordinary in their area. Call 911 to report any suspicious activity.

If you're going to leave any of your valuables in a vehicle, then please make they are out of plain sight and secured, if possible. Reports of laptops, GPS units, tablet computers, purses, firearms and other costly items being stolen from vehicles tend to be very common.

If possible, leave these items at home, Atlanta police said. Take them with you, if you can.
