Wife of civil rights leader Joseph Lowery suffers stroke

ATLANTA -

FOX 5 has learned voting rights activist, Evelyn Gipson Lowery, was rushed to the hospital on Wednesday night. She is the wife of the Rev. Joseph Lowery.

A spokesperson says she suffered a stroke and is currently in critical condition.

Evelyn Lowery founded the sister organization of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) called Women's Organizational Movement for Equality Now, Inc. (W.O.M.E.N.), in the late 1970s.
