Death of 3-year-old Rome girl investigated as foul play

ROME, Ga. -

The death of a 3-year-old girl in Rome is being called foul play. Ella Camp passed away on Thursday from injuries police say she suffered at her home earlier this week.

Investigators said that Camp was brought to the Floyd County Medical Center on Tuesday morning by an unnamed family member. Her injuries were so severe that she was transferred to Children's at Scottish Rite Pediatric Hospital.

The young girl passed away from head trauma early Thursday.

Police in Rome have not commented on who was caring for Camp on Monday night into Tuesday morning, and they are not saying who lived in her house.

Neighbors told FOX 5's Chris Shaw that Ella's mother and boyfriend lived in the duplex and that they seemed liked a happy family.

"They seemed like a normal household, nothing out of the ordinary. No late nights, nothing like that. You'd see them out playing and everybody seemed to get along," said Chris Cumbie.

More than 10,000 have followed Ella's story on a Facebook page, Prayers for Ella.

Authorities said they are working on some leads and hope to make an arrest soon.
