Many shoppers in Berkley are upset after learning the Hiller's grocery store there will close in the next few months.

The owners of the popular family-owned store say they are shutting down the location on 12 Mile Road between Coolidge and Greenfield for several reasons including the high cost of renovating the current store.

Employees will be relocated when the store closes on November 1. The store owners, Jim & Justin Hiller released a statement explaining the decision.

As many of you have heard, we will be closing our Berkley store on November 1st. Please know that this was a difficult decision for us. There were many factors that entered into this decision. The store is in dire need of renovation, however, the small footprint of the space makes it impossible for us to renovate to the standards of our other stores. Parking is also an issue at this location. We're not abandoning the neighborhood, however. We are currently in negotiations for another site in the Berkley/Royal Oak area, and plan to build a spectacular new store that is up to the standards of our other markets. We appreciate your incredible loyalty over the years and hope you will continue to visit us at our other locations until the new location is finalized and the new store is built.
