Movie Critic Matt Atchity: Some Good Films This Weekend

Posted: Updated:

Most of the critics agree there's one must see movie to see this weekend...if you can stomach it. Matt Atchity from Rotten Tomatoes says "Prisoners", the child abduction thriller starring Hugh Jackman is riveting but also tough to watch.

"I felt that this movie scared me in a way that a movie hadn't scared me in a long time and as a parent it is particularly scary....probably your best bet this weekend although again this is a heavy film this is not light and fun."

Something else that's tough to watch, but for different reasons, is the Chris Brown dance flick "Battle of the Year".

"The critics really don't like it...but it does have two things going for it according to critics. One, the dancing is pretty good. Two, Chris Brown gets punched in the face."

Critics can't say enough about the James Gandolfini move "Enough Said"...the actor's final movie.

"It's a bittersweet romantic comedy that is a grown up movie in the best sense of the word, the critics really like it."

Despite a well known cast, reviews are split on the comedy "Thanks For Sharing". It's about a group of recovering sex addicts that either hits or misses, depending on which review you read.

"The critics that like it say that the movie does a really good job exploring the subject and they say that the cast is great. The critics that have come down on this one and don't like it say the cast is great but the movie doesn't go deep enough (into the sex addict world).

A safe bet for families is a classic that's been around for quite a while. The IMAX 3D release of "The Wizard of Oz".

"If you've never seen this on the big screen absolutely go and see it. This is such a treat to see on a big screen. It's a great transfer, it looks beautiful...what needs to be said about "The Wizard of Oz" except go see it".

Atchity is the editor in chief for the pop-culture website "Rotten Tomatoes." He also hosts a new show on Sirius XM called "Rotten Tomatoes Radio."

The weekly one hour call in show airs Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

‘Rotten Tomatoes TV Zone' is up now on the Rotten Tomatoes website.
