Highway 316 in Lawrenceville reopens after gas leak

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -

Officials have reopened Highway 316 in Lawrenceville. A gas leak forced officials to close all lanes in both directions between Collins Hill and Walther Boulevard earlier on Friday.

Officials say a road crew hit a gas line while digging underground to install bridge pylons. Firefighters detected a strong odor of gas and found an active leak after they arrived.

The Administrative Building at Georgia Gwinnett College was evacuated as a precaution.

Crews capped the ruptured 12-inch gas line on Friday afternoon.
