A 9-year-old boy is facing charges after bringing several weapons to school, deputies say. The Endeavor Elementary student was arrested before classes began on Thursday.
"He had revealed to friends multiple weapons that were in his backpack," said Orange County Sheriff's spokesman Jeff Williamson. "A small handgun, a loaded magazine, a knife, and small hammer."
Other students, who said they witnessed the boy showing off the weapons, reported the incident to a school resource officer.
"He was showing what was in his backpack to three other students, and fortunately, someone had the wisdom and the responsible mind to go and tell school officials."
Students like 10-year-old Mohiv Dossani and his mother had no idea what happened, until they got a phone message from the school at home.
"It was a normal day like any day at school, we didn't know anything about it," said Rizwana Dossani. "It's really, really upsetting, because it's a very good school, and we never expect these kind of things in this kind of school."
Right now, investigators are not saying how the child was able to obtain the weapons. He is charged with possession of a firearm at school, and as a minor.
