CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

500 Chicago Marathon runners lined the entrance of Piper's Alley Movie Theater in Old Town to attend Breaking the Wall hosted by Fleet Feet Sports.

With the race just two weeks away, the gathering in Old Town focused on getting ready and staying safe.

"I feel pretty safe. I don't really have a lot of concerns about that," said Marcie Gutierrez, a Chicago Marathon Runner.

31-year-old Marcie Gutierrez ran in last year's Chicago Marathon and plans to run again this year.

This is the first domestic World Marathon Major since Boston.

"One of the things we are doing with our enhancements this year, talking to our participants...We're also going to have four security check points, all of our participants will be screened when they come into the start/finish area," said Carey Pinkowski, Chicago Marathon Executive Director.

The Chicago Marathon will also have ticketed spectators at the finish line.

"We've been in discussions with the Chicago Police, the police in Boston so we're moving toward a safe and memorable race day and secure memorable race day on Sunday, October 13th," said Pinkowski.

Pinkowski joined this panel with 2004 Olympic Silver Medalist Meb Keflezighi and others to answer questions from runners here and online via Twitter.

"I was at the Boston Marathon, I was one of the spectators that didn't get injured, I was watching it, 50 meters, 60 meters away from it. It happened and unfortunately, my prayers and thoughts are with the families that have been affected by it, emotionally and physically, but we cannot avoid - it happened but at the same time, we are runners, we are united," said Meb Keflezighi, a 2004 Olympic Silver Medalist.
