2013 TEDxDetroit conference

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) -

The fifth annual TEDxDetroit conference was held Wednesday at the newly renovated Cobo Center. TED stands for technology, entertainment and design. The one-day event features lectures and performances from people from all walks of life who aren't afraid to think outside of the box.

"The idea is, if you bring a bunch of 'thinkers' and 'doers' together, and give them fresh inputs, those charged particles bounce together and create something new," conference spokesperson Charlie Wolborg says. "The only way we can fix our challenges is to think our way out of it."

About one thousand people were chosen to attend the conference, including major firms that showed off new technology like the highly-anticipated "Google Glass," a computer eyepiece.

Detroit's young talent also introduced new ideas that could be the next big thing, such as College Tour LLC. The group goes to college campuses and records video tours by students for other potential students to watch.

Young 10-year-old Asia Newson also introduced her budding business to the world, Super-Business Girl. She tells Fox 2's Alexis Wiley she teaches young people how to make and manage their own money, so "we won't have to ask our parents for everything."
