PHILADELPHIA -

Philadelphia police quickly reported an arrest in connection with the brutal beating and robbery of a 75-year-old man at a North Philadelphia gas station.

Officers arrested Joseph Smith, 31, on an unrelated offense.

But now he's charged in this beating and robbery, surveillance video of which was released Wednesday by police.

Investigators allege that Smith was the man in the footage from a Getty gas station along North Broad Street.

In the video, the 75-year-old victim is knocked to the ground and stomped on over and over again.

Officers say Smith got away with $40 cash and some lottery tickets.

FOX 29 News spoke with a witness on Wednesday.

Smith is under arrest on a long list of charges. Those include robbery, theft, simple assault and reckless endangerment, FOX 29's Chris Murphy reported.
