NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A Long Island bus aide faces assault charges for an incident with a special needs student that left the young boy with a broken arm.

Suffolk County Police arrested Richard Mason, 39, of Brentwood on Wednesday.

Police say that Mason, who works for Acme Bus Corp., was riding in a bus with students from North Ridge Elementary School.

They were in Commack when he, in an attempt at discipline, grabbed the arm of a 5-year-old developmentally disabled boy and twisted it behind the student’s back, according to police.

The boy ended up with a fracture.

The incident happened on September 30 at approximately 4 p.m. Following an investigation, Mason was arrested Wednesday and charged with assault and acting in a manner to injure a child.

He was to be arraigned in a Central Islip court on Thursday.
