An off-duty New York City police officer has been arrested on charges including vehicular manslaughter after an accident that claimed the life of a pedestrian.
The accident happened shortly after 6 a.m. Friday on Richmond Terrace on Staten Island.
A Ford Escape driven by off-duty officer Joseph McClean struck William Hemphill, police said.
Hemphill, 51, was pronounced dead at Richmond University Medical Center.
McClean, 29, was arrested on charges including vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated.
No information on an attorney for the officer was immediately available.
The investigation is ongoing.
