Marky Mark Hackel and his not so fun bunch of flip flopping, if you're running for governor

So which is it Marky?

Last May the very independent-minded Macomb County executive made the only news coming out of the schmooze-fest at a business conference on Mackinac Island.  He boldly announced that he would remain neutral in the race for governor.

If you know anything about Mark Hackel, you were not shocked but it was a good little story in that he did it almost right in front of Mark Schauer the likely Democrat taking on incumbent Gov. Rick Snyder.

It was not the kind of news peg Mr. Schauer wanted to fend-off as he worked the porch at the Grand Hotel trying to pick-up some free media on the outside, while the governor hob-nobbed with all his cronies from the business community inside the ritzy hotel.

Anyway the story came and went but now deserves a revisit in the wake of Mr. Hackel's most recent observations shared with the Detroit News.

Now he says, "I might" endorse in the race.  "Might" is not the same as "won't" which means Mr. Hackel, who is a Democrat but perhaps in name only some say, is in the "flip" phase of a possible flip-flop on his possible endorsement in the governor's race.

So which is it Marky?

In the grand scheme of things regarding the outcome of the election, let's just say his endorsement either way is not a game changer, but if he stiffs Mr. Schauer again, it will be news the Schauer camp would rather not  fend-off again. And if your the governor, you'd love to have it because it would add to his effort to portray himself as a bi-partisan kind of gov.

Macomb County is important to the outcome of the election and there might be some voters who follow Mr. Hackel's lead if he endorses... after he gets done, of course, explaining away his political change of heart.
