PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y. (AP) - A suburban New York middle school is handing out foam balls at recess instead of harder footballs and baseballs.
The Port Washington school district says a construction project has limited space for the students during a 20-minute recess period.
The district says on its website that students will still have access to harder balls during gym and intramural activities. It says there's less of a concern about an errant throw hitting a child in those settings.
Superintendent Kathleen Mooney was not immediately available.
