Mom, daughter wait on reward money from Kid Rock

Posted: Updated:

Surveillance video from Kid Rock's home in Independence Township on July 31, 2013 shows a man ramming his truck through the gate and stumbling around on his crutches. Investigators released this video and asked for help identifying the suspect. Kid Rock even publicly announced a five thousand dollar reward for any information that leads to an arrest.

Susan Carroll and her daughter, Melissa Cooley, were watching the news and recognized the man right away. They called police.

"I couldn't believe it. I didn't want to believe it. I didn't want to believe that he would stoop that low, but that's what addiction does. It makes people do things they would never do in their right mind," Cooley tells Fox 2's Amy Lange.

"Brian was in a downward spiral. We knew that, and we were hoping he'd get some help," Carroll adds.

Brian Keith and Cooley had just broken up. Not only did she recognize her ex on the surveillance video, he had also texted her from Kid Rock's home the night of the attempted break in.

The texts say:
'Just got an invitation to go to kid rocks on my way'
'I'm at his house ... I have a got Rock's car for the night ... and he has fountains'

"I did not think he was there at all because he wouldn't send me pictures or anything," Cooley says.

But Keith was there and has since been sentenced to 46 months to 20 years in prison for it.  And now Carroll and Cooley are wondering about that reward money, after calling in the tip at the beginning of August. Oakland County Sheriff's Investigators confirm that tip led to the arrest and conviction of Keith.

Melissa and her young son, with Keith, are trying to start over and say that five thousand dollars would really help out.

"It would be nice to get the reward money. I just got a job and money's been kind of tight with the baby but, hopefully it will come through," Cooley says.

Fox 2 called a representative for Kid Rock to find out when the family can expect the reward money.
