Wind, dust advisories for central, western Arizona

Posted: Updated:

PHOENIX (AP) - Wind and blowing dust advisories have been issued for much of central and western Arizona, and Arizona motorists are being urged to use caution.

The National Weather Service says its advisories will remain in effect until 9 p.m. MST. It says winds will peak in the late afternoon and be particularly strong in south-central Arizona near Phoenix, Gila Bend and Casa Grande.

According to the weather service, visibility may drop to a mile or less due to blowing dust, particularly near open fields.

The Arizona Department of Transportation says travelers on I-8 between Yuma and Casa Grande, I-10 between Phoenix and Tucson and I-40 between Flagstaff may encounter wind gusts between 30 and 50 mph and areas of blowing dust.
