At the D23 Expo in Japan, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Tom Staggs shared artist renderings of the attraction and video featuring filmmaker James Cameron and Walt Disney Imagineer Joe Rohde.

The renderings show floating mountains and bioluminescent plants which guests will encounter in the mythical world of Pandora.

"I don't think I could have every envisioned a day when something that I created would live inside a Disney theme park," Cameron said.  "From the moment we released Avatar, there was an amazing, visceral response from people around the world that they wanted to go to Pandora.  Now, thanks to Disney, that's going to be possible."

Cameron also announced in the video that he is presently working on three sequels to the original movie.

The AVATAR attraction was first announced in 2011 with an planned completion date sometime in 2016. The first sequel is expected to be released in December 2016, with the other two movies to follow in 2017 and 2018.
